Preserving Art in the age of AI
Why Project Celluloid Exists
The artistic process behind most art — whether it’s writing, music, poetry, filmmaking, animation, painting, etc. — is changing rapidly.
As generative AI becomes increasingly capable of producing creative work instantly, something important risks being quietly overlooked: the deeply human process of making art itself.
The experimentation. The mistakes. The collaboration. The weird stuff that makes you go, “jeez, where did THAT come from”. The hours spent rewriting, rehearsing, sculpting, sketching, scoring, improvising, and figuring something out.
And honestly, no one seemed to really be doing much about it.
So we decided to try.
Each year, Project Celluloid awards microgrants to artists across disciplines creating new work without generative AI — followed by a year-end showcase and fundraiser where artists and audiences come together to say, “hey, look at how many incredible things we made, and how many people we brought together because of it. We should do more of this!”
Your contribution helps real people make real things.
